Poster Competition

NZSOLD Poster Competition 2022/23

The New Zealand Society on Large Dams (NZSOLD) would like to encourage the sharing of technical knowledge, experience, and research in fields related to our understanding of dams in New Zealand.

The 2022 NZSOLD poster competition is open to all New Zealand-based students and Young Professionals (under 40) who wish to share their work concerning the engineering, operation, management, safety, environment, biology or geology of dams (or water-retaining embankments). Posters will be featured on the NZSOLD website, and displayed at the NZSOLD symposium in Mid-2023. Winners will be acknowledged in the  NZSOLD newsletter, and awards will be presented at a webinar in early 2023.

Prizes will be awarded in one category.
The competition is open to:
1) Students (enrolled in 2021 or 2022)
2) Young Professionals (under 40)

Prize money will be awarded :
• First place: $1,000
• Second place: $500

Registration fees at the NZSOLD Symposium in Mid-2023, where the posters will be displayed, will be included in the prize.

Judging criteria:

  • Layout: visual clarity, structure, appropriate use of text and images, creativity.
  • Technical content: quality of material, clear introduction or problem statement, appropriate methodology or development, clarity and soundness of results or conclusions.
  • Overall impact: quality, interest factor, value of contribution (novel work), clear concept or message, viewer engagement.

Entry requirements:

  • A1 paper size, landscape OR portrait orientation.
  • To be submitted electronically in .pdf OR .ppt/.pptx format.
  • Single author or multiple authors (up to five authors per poster).
  • Relevant copyright or commercial permissions must be approved prior to submission.
  • The redaction of legally or commercially sensitive details is permitted, provided the overall message of the poster remains clear.

Students must seek supervisor permission/approval prior to submission (where applicable).

Submission and timeline: Posters must be submitted electronically to nzsoldypg@gmail.com, accompanied by the entry cover form (attached), any time prior to Monday 13 February 2023. An email will be sent to confirm your entry has been received. If you have not received an email within 5 days please follow up. Judging will take place following the close of submissions and awards will be presented at a webinar in early 2023. Note attendance at the 2023 NZSOLD Symposium is not compulsory to enter the competition).
